Around 25 clubs in the city including Chelmsford Club and India Habitat Centre have been issued notices by Delhi government's environment department for flouting "green norms" including "failure" to set up waste water treatment plants.
Top officials in the Environment department said a number of restaurants in India Habitat Centre (IHC) and three clubs including Chelmsford Club, National Sports Club of India were ordered to close down couple of weeks ago for failing to comply with the laid down norms.
But following request by the authorities of IHC and the clubs, the government has given them three months' time to comply with the environmental norms.
"We have issued notices to a total of 25 clubs. We had issued closure notices to five restaurants in IHC. Closure notices were issued to three other clubs. Following a request from the affected parties, we have given them three months' time to comply with the norms," an official said.
As per green code of the government all the clubs of "certain categories" are required to set up waste water treatment plants, the officials said.
The clubs have been told to take steps like setting up of rain water harvesting facilities, solar water heating systems and put in place a waste management system.
The clubs were told to use the treated water for horticulture purpose, flushing of toilets and in their air conditioning and fire fighting systems.
The government in April had asked 35 five-star hotels to take immediate steps to cut down their consumption and directed them to set up waste water treatment plants.
