25 int naval academies to participate in Admiral's Cup Regatta

The seventh edition of "Admiral's Cup Regatta", an annual sailing event hosted by Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kannur district, will see trainees from 25 International Naval Academies compete in sailing at Ettikulam bay from December 5 to 11.
The participating trainees will be from Australia, Bahrain,Bangladesh, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States of America and Venezuela, besides India, an INA release said.
The international event was instituted by the Indian Navy as a "Fleet Race" in a single crew Olympic class "Laser-Radial" sail boatin 2010 with eight International Naval Academies participating.
Naval Academies of friendly foreign countries across the world invited to participate in the seventh edition will be competing in 16races spread over four days with each country being represented by two boats, the release said.
The coveted "Admiral's Cup" would be awarded to the best team winning the championship on the basis of their combined performance. In addition, individual medals will also be awarded.
The Admiral's Cup Regatta 2015 was won by the USA. This year's regatta will be more exciting and challenging with the highest ever number of countries participating in the event including first time participation of teams from Canada, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Portugal and Singapore, it added.
