Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) said it has started repair work on the ruptured pipeline in adjoining Thane district and the task will be completed by tomorrow evening.
"The pipeline that supplies water to the city from Tansa lake has burst at Vartak Nagar in Thane district. Due to this, we have imposed 25 per cent water cut in the western, eastern and southern parts of the city with immediate effect, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Bambale told PTI.
"We expect the crack on the affected stretch to be fixed by Tuesday evening. Once the work is completed, we will initiate the regular water supply," Bambale said.
MCGM on August 13 withdrew water cuts it had imposed on the city a month ago.
The civic administration had imposed a 20 per cent water cut in Mumbai from July 3 due to poor rainfall in June. It reduced the water cut to 10 per cent on July 30 as levels in lakes supplying water to the financial capital improved following heavy downpour.
