"Acting on a tip off, a district administration team led by DM Rajouri Saugat Biswas raided the OMC brick kiln in Bakher and rescued 26 bonded labourers, belonging to Chhattisgarh," an official spokesman said.

The families headed by Bahadur Singh (3 members), Mehboob Khan (9 members), Naveen Kumar (7 members) and Ganesh Ram (7 members) were forced to work as bonded labourers for failing to pay back the borrowed money to the brick kiln owner.

Each family was issued a Bonded Labour Rescue Certificate to help them rehabilitate in their state, he added.

The rescued persons were taken to Jammu Tawi Railway station by road, from where railway tickets have been booked for their return to Chhattisgarh, the spokesman said.
