Twenty-seven Nepalese women, who were rescued in India from being trafficked to Dubai on the pretext of providing lucrative jobs, have returned home, police said today.
The women, aged between 20 and 40, were brought to Nepal yesterday at the initiative of the Indian security agencies in New Delhi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal and Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare.
The 27 women were being trafficked to Dubai and other Gulf cities two weeks ago for employing in risky jobs, including commercial sex, the Nepalese authorities said.
They were flown by agents to New Delhi on the pretext of providing them lucrative jobs in various countries including Kurdistan, Tanzania and Kenya, but were actually heading towards Gulf countries with false identities and fake passport through illegal means, the Nepal Police headquarters said in a statement.
Earlier, Indian authorities had handed over the rescued women to Nari Niketan, a Delhi-based, social organisation, for repatriation.
Officials at the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police received the women at Tribhuvan International Airport.
