As many as 276 people were challaned today for violation of norms in the odd-even scheme on the second day of its implementation in the national capital.
While 229 people were challaned by Delhi Traffic Police, 47 were fined by officials of Delhi Government's Transport department, said police and senior government officials.
"Today we challaned 229 persons till 8 PM. Yesterday, 138 were challaned for violation of the odd-even scheme," Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander said.
Yesterday, 203 persons were challaned in total, including 65 fined by Transport department officials.
Besides challans of odd-even violation, 208 auto-rickshaw drivers were also prosecuted today for refusal to take passengers and refusing to be hired by the meter, making it tougher for people who left their cars at home.
As the much-debated odd-even scheme restricting movement of private cars in the national capital between 8 AM and 8 PM for a fortnight was rolled out yesterday.
Under the scheme, private cars having odd registration numbers will be allowed to ply on odd dates and those with even numbers on even dates.
