28,000 youths appear for J-K police constable recruitment test

Unfazed by the attacks on policemen by militants, about 28,000 Jammu and Kashmir youths today took the written test at 61 centres for recruitment to the post of constable in the state police.
Director General of Police S P Vaid took stock of the arrangements for smooth conduct of the examination and also visited the centres at Girls Higher Secondary School at Kothibagh here and Government Degree College and Higher Secondary School at Budgam.
He was accompanied by Chairman Recruitment Board Surinder Kumar Gupta (IGP Headquarters) and DIG central Kashmir Ghulam Hassan Bhat.
"As many as 27,844 candidates appeared in the written test for the post of constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police which was held today at 61 examination centres across the state," a police spokesperson said.
In the first phase of the recruitment process, out of 1,18,217 applicants, about 96,000 candidates appeared for the physical endurance and physical standard tests held at different venues across the state.
Out of these, 27,844 including, 1,814 female candidates had qualified for the written test held at all district headquarters of the state, the spokesman said.

He said that more than 2,200 police officials and personnel were deployed and adequate security arrangements were made around the examination centres for smooth and fair conduct of the final phase of recruitment process.
The state police chief, while talking to reporters outside an examination centre at Budgam, said that the recruitment process has been conducted in transparent manner with the help of modern gadgets, and grievances raised by any candidate have been resolved on the spot.
He advised the candidates not to pay any heed to the brokers who would try to lure them.
"Only meritorious candidates would get berth in the selection list," the DGP said.
Militants have attacked and killed a number of police personnel in recent years in Kashmir.
