Acting on a tip off, a team of Excise department stopped the vehicle in Dholbaja village on NH 57 and during search recovered 2800 bottles of Corex Syrup used for purpose of intoxication as a substitute of liquor after prohibition, Assistant Commissioner of Excise R C Sinha said.
He said the vehicle was coming to Araria from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with the Corex bottles for sale at a hefty price.
The seized Corex syrup bottles are estimated to be of Rs 2.70 lakh.
After promulgation of liquor ban, smuggling of Corex Syrup having alcoholic content has increased in Seemanchal areas of the state comprising Araria, Kisanganj and Purnea among others.
In order to check misuse of the Corex Syrup the government has made it mandatory that it could be purchased only on the basis of doctor's prescription.
