The admission of children under the EWS quota into nursery, kindergarten and class I will start tomorrow and it will continue till May 15, a senior official said.
He said the department has set up 28 help desks in zonal offices of the Directorate of Education.
"The help desks will be functional between 10 am and 2 pm on all working days during this period to facilitate admission of the children from economically weaker section," said Education Minister Kiran Walia.
As per norms, the schools have to keep aside 25 per cent seats in pre-primary classes for children from economically weaker sections.
A large number of seats under EWS quota are lying vacant in most of the schools.
The official said the list of school-wise details of vacant seats in various schools has been pasted on the notice boards of the zonal offices of the department.
