3.4 lakh kanals of land granted to farmers free of cost

Dispelling the notion that the enactment of the Roshni scheme in the state has benefitted the land mafia, Jammu and Kashmir government today said 3.4 lakh kanals of land were given to farmers free of cost under the scheme.
"3.4 lakh kanals of land were given to farmers for agricultural practices free of cost under the Roshni scheme," Minister Ajaz Ahmed Khan said in the Assembly.
"Similarly, 990 kanals of land were given to people for commercial purposes and 6,900 kanals for residential purposes," he said.
The Minsiter dismissed cliams that the enactment of the scheme has only benefitted the land mafia.
"Government received 2.54 lakh applications under the Roshni scheme of which 1.77 lakh application were disposed and the rest 76,000 are under process," he said, adding that government expected a revenue of Rs 317 crore from the beneficiaries under the scheme.
