A laptop, Rs 5.25 lakh cash, printer and some important papers have been recovered from them, they said.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the hotel room yesterday and arrested the departmental clerk of Maharajganj district and three BEOs, Senior Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar said.
Some officials of Basic Education Department were allegedly engaged in a "deal" regarding transfer and posting of teachers in a city hotel, he said.
The three BEOs have been identified as Anup Tripathi, posted at Siswa (Mahrajganj), Rambahadur posted at Luxmipur (Mahrajganj) and Ajay Gupta posted at Nichlaul (Mahrajganj), Kumar said.
The hotel room was booked in the name of Surya Prakash Singh, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Mahrajganj. However, he was not in the room and his mobile phone was switched off.
The hotel room served as a camp office of BSA, Maharajganj for issuing the manipulated promotion and transfer list of teachers, they said, adding that the investigation is on and a case would be lodged after preliminary enquiry.
