3 cops, 1 home guard booked in custodial death case

A case of murder has been registered against four security personnel, including a station house officer (SHO), in the alleged custodial death of a 35-year-old man, which took place in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district on Saturday.
The victim Satish Norge, a native of Nariyara village under Mulmula police station died in police custody on September 17 with his family alleged that he was brutally thrashed by policemen.
"Based on the available facts, FIR under section 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of IPC has been registered with concerned police station (in connection with the death of Norge)," Chhattisgarh DGP A N Upadhyay and Principal Secretary (Home) BVR Subrahmanyam said in a joint press conference here today at the state secretariat.
Sub Inspector Jeetendra Singh Rajput, (who was posted as SHO Mulmula police station), constables Sunil Dhruv and Dilharan Miri and Home Guard Rajesh Kumar, have been booked in the FIR, they added quoting the information received to them from Janjgir-Champa superintendent of police in this connection.
Since Norge belonged to SC category, an FIR has also been registered under the relevant sections of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, they said.
For establishing the cause of his death, under the section 176 (1) of CrPC Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pamgarh, Satish Khakhais conducting a probe.

The deceased's post-mortem was performed in the presence of the same JMFC, they said.
The state government has immediately provided assistance of Rs 25,000 to Sunil's family-- wife Usha Norge and two minor sons Rahul and Goldi.
Through the Chief Minister's relief fund, they have also been provided with assistance of Rs 1 lakh, the officials said.
The state government has also announced to provide an additional assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the victim's family from Chief Minister's relief fund and this is being provided to them, they said.
Moreover, the state government has also decided to provide government job to his wife Usha Norge.
Likewise, the state government has decided to give free-of-cost education for Norge's children in the state-run hostels, they added.
