Offences have been registered against three Thane police personnel, including a senior inspector, for alleged dereliction of duty.
During their tenure at the Naupada police station here, senior police inspector Jairam Dattatrya More, assistant sub-inspector Jagannath Raghunath Sonawane and constable Nilesh Gulab Kisve allegedly did not take cognisance of a complaint by advocate Rajesh Dattu Kakad and fabricated records to pose as if they were taking due action, as per the FIR lodged against them last night.
Kakde wanted to file a complaint against three brothers who had allegedly duped him to the tune of Rs 80,000 on the pretext of giving him good returns.
When he approached the Naupada police, the three personnel did not take cognisance of his complaint, following which Kakad filed a petition in the High Court.
He was not satisfied with the HC letting the three brothers off with a warning and hence, he filed a suit in the Thane court which recently held that there was prima facie substance in the complaint and directed the city police to register an offence against the three policemen and carry out probe into the complaint.
Kakad alleged that the trio connived and did not take any action on his complaint, instead they fabricated the documents to pretend as if they were taking action. Thus, the police personnel had cheated him and put him into loss and violated the legal provisions, he stated.
Naupada police station inspector Suman Chavan today said that based on the court's directives, an offence has been registered against the three policemen under relevant sections of the IPC and Bombay Police Act and further probe was on in the matter.
