3-day intl symposium on water resources mgt from Feb 19

About 350 delegates, including some from abroad, will participate in a three-day International symposium on "Integrated Water Resources Management" (IWRM) here from February 19 to 21.
"IWRM is in the process of supporting synchronised development and management of water, land and related natural resources to maximize resultant economic and social welfare equitably with no compromise on the sustainability of the vital ecosystems," N B Narasimha Prasad, Executive Director, Centre for Water Resources Development and Management, the organisers told reporters here.
Global changes in climate, land use, increase in population, industrialisation have put tremendous pressure on availability of fresh water to meet the ever increasing demands, he said.

Prasad said the sustainable management of water could be ensured only through integrated approach with cooperation of various departments and stakeholders.
He said Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy would inaugurate the symposium through video conferencing.
CWRDM is a premier research institution established by the State Government in 1978.
