3-day national conference on animal rights

Nearly 200 animal rights activists from India and abroad would converge at a three-day national conference here to discuss issues related with animal protection and their rights.
"Panel discussions, workshop and sessions on various topics will be the part of the conference 'India for Animals-2014" beginning on September 12," Norma Alvares, chairperson of Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisation (FIAPO) said.
Highlights of the conference include session the status of animal in India, improving the lives of dogs, discussion on captive elephants in India and making India Rabies free, she said.
D R Mehta, founder of famous Jaipur foot and supporter of animal rights, told reporters that serious deliberations were needed to ensure protection of the rights of the animals.
"Animals have been used by humans for long but the issue is that animals are subjected to cruelty and torture, and that must stop," he said.
