The three bodies were found stuck at the bottom of the trawler. It was on its way back to Namkhana last night, with 30 fishermen on board, after getting warning about stormy sea caused by depression in the Bay of Bengal, a senior police officer said.
The fishermen had anchored the trawler on Saptamukhi river mouth for cooking dinner, when a gale toppled it. However, 25 fishermen managed swim to a nearby vessel, the officer said.
West Bengal United Fishermen's Association Secretary Bijon Maity said the trawler had left for deep sea on Friday morning and was on its way back after receiving warning of inclement weather when the incident occurred.
A MeT department report from Bhubaneswar said earlier in the day, the depression moved east-northeastwards with a speed of about 40 kmph and lay centred over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal about 210 km southeast of Paradip.
