3 held for killing businessman during robbery in West Delhi

Three men were arrested for allegedly killing a businessman in West Delhi's Kriti Nagar while trying to rob him, police said Tuesday.

A total of Rs 1.8 crore in cash, one motorcycle and a country-made pistol with 2 live cartridges were also recovered from the accused, they said.

The accused were identified as Salim (21), Ajay Sharma (20), residents of Nooh district in Haryana and Deepak (26), a resident of Burari, they added.

According to Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), a police patrolling team heard a loud noise apparently of a bullet being fired, on Monday at around 8.30 pm near Railway underpass, Kirti Nagar Industrial Area.

After reaching the spot, it was found that one person was firing at another while his bike-borne accomplice kept waiting and two others were opening boot space of the car to loot cash kept inside it, the DCP said.

Salim was apprehended while rest of the accused persons fled the spot. Anand Agarwal, the injured, was rushed to Acharyashree Bhikshu Hospital, Moti Nagar where he was declared brought dead and the driver suffered injuries, police said.

On the instance of Salim, Sharma and Deepak were arrested Tuesday morning from Burari.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they hatched a plan to rob Agarwal who runs his business in Naraina, the DCP said.

After the accused got information that the victim would be carrying huge cash, they started following him from his office in Naraina.

Barely had the car crossed the railway underpass, it was made to stop by the accused who overtook the vehicle after which Sharma shot at the driver by a country-made pistol, police said.

When Agarwal came out of the car and tried to intervene, Sharma shot at him twice, they said.
