Police said Gopalakrishna in his complaint had said three persons who ran a firm here bought plywood from him worth Rs 20 lakh and had issued a post dated cheque for Rs six lakh.
But when the post dated cheque bounced, enquiries showed that they had closed the company, he said.
Based on his complaint, a special team was formed, which found that the trio had opened another company in Chandigarh, and adopted the same modus operandi.
After looking for them in Chandigarh and Delhi, the special team nabbed them in Mumbai, police said.
The arrested were identified as Prafulla Kumar from Delhi, Arun Sivakumar (Mumbai) and Kiran Kumar (Bangalore).
They were brought here today and produced before a local court which remanded them in judicial custody, police added.
