Three persons were arrested by Delhi police for allegedly duping several people of their money on the pretext of providing handsome bonus on their existing insurance policies.
The Crime Branch on September 9 arrested Amit Kumar, 32, Neeloo Kumar, 27, and Himanshu Vats, 26, for allegedly running a "cheating syndicate" under the garb of a Holiday Package Agency in the name of 'Metro City Tourism Services.'
Apart from the trio, there were three other co-accused - Pradeep Yadav, Akhilesh and Deepak - who are on the run, police today said, adding that it was conducting raids to nab them.
The accused had initially set up their office at Shakarpur in January this year, from where they used to make calls to cheat people and later shifted to another place in the same area to avoid being traced, police said.
"All the accused were ex-employees of call centers of insurance companies and were familiar with their functioning. Pradeep Yadav, Akhilesh and Deepak had procured data of customers from various companies, where they used to work as tele callers/sales executive.
"They particularly targeted retired persons as they have handsome funds after their retirement and kept looking for investment. The accused used to call from their fake call center in the name of different insurance agencies," police said regarding their modus operandi.
"The accused persons induced the victims to deposit certain amount in their bank accounts which were also obtained on fake/shifted addresses. Once a victim would deposit some amount in the given bank account, they would further ask him to deposit more money as various charges/fee e.G. For agent code removal, NOC form filling, income tax payments, service tax payments etc," they said.
The matter came to light after the accused duped a Rajasthan-based ex-serviceman Govind Prasad Sharma of Rs 90,97,700 by promising him a bonus of Rs seven lakh on his existing insurance policy.
