Mizoram Police today arrested
three militants belonging to the Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) including the self-styled action unit chief of the outfit from Silchar in Assam's Cachar district.
An official statement issued by the police said that three - Lalropuia Famhoite (47), self-styled 'army' chief of the outfit, Norbar Sanate (46), self-styled 'Finance Secretary' and Ngurthantluanga Sanate (29) - were netted in the raid at Ramnagar in Cachar and were being brought to Aizawl.
"The arrested persons were wanted by the state police in a number of cases," the statement said, adding that the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Aizawl had issued two standing warrants of arrest against Famhoite after he jumped bail.
The arrests came after the state police launched operations to arrest those responsible for the ambush by the HPC (D) militants of the team of the state assembly committee on government assurances on March 28 last near the Mizoram-Manipur-Assam border Zokhawthiang hamlet in which three policemen were gunned down.
