Three Indian airports, including Delhi's, have been recognised for significant progress in managing carbon emissions by a global airports body.
Apart from Indira Gandhi International Airport here, Bengaluru International Airport and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad have been upgraded to Level 3 of 'Optimisation' by Airports Council International,Asia-Pacific.
These airports have reduced emissions through the carbon management certification programme -- Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA).
The announcement was made at the "8th ACI Airport Exchange" held in Doha earlier this week.
"Airport Carbon Accreditation was extended to the Asia-Pacific region of ACI in November 2011 and over these two years we have seen the programme gain real momentum here. There are already 12 airports certified by the programme, four of which have achieved Level 3 'Optimisation'," Patti Chau, Regional Director of ACI Asia-Pacific said in a statement.
While congratulating the airports, Chau said "I wish to congratulate these airports and I am pleased to see more and more airports willing to go the extra mile. These airports demonstrate our region's growing commitment to reducing aviation's impact on the environment and sustainable development.
