Three members of a family from Kerala on a pilgrimage to the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at nearby Tirumala were killed and another was injured when their car and a lorry collided near here today.
Santosh (45) hailing from Kasaragod, his wife Asha (40) a government doctor, and 15-year old son Harikrishna were killed on the spot in the head-on collision near Puthalapattu, about 60 km from here, on Chittoor-Bengaluru Road, police said.
The couple's another son, aged 10, was seriously injured. After initial treatment at the Chittoor Government Hospital, he had been shifted to a hospital in neighbouring Vellore in Tamil Nadu where his condition was critical, they said.
Police said they were on the lookout for the lorry driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
