The deceased as well as the injured, all from Vadavali in Thane, were travelling to Shirdi in the newly purchased pick-up van when the accident took place near Wavi village on Sinnar-Shirdi road around 2 am, Hemant Patil, in-charge of Wavi police station, said.
Gyaneshwar Namdev Thakare (30), his wife Neha (27) and Yogita Santosh Choudhari (25) were killed on the spot.
The tempo was coming from the opposite direction of the van, Patil said, adding that its driver has been booked in this connection.
Further investigation into the case is on.
