At least three persons were killed today in central Egypt in clashes between security forces and supporters of the ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
The incident took place within the Giza Governorate where Muslim Brotherhood members clashed with police on the second day today, marking the first anniversary of the killings of hundreds of members of the group during two sit-ins in Cairo.
Two persons were killed in the Faisal neighbourhood and the third in Hawamdia. One of the two dead in Faisal was a Brotherhood supporter and the other was a local resident, said Maj Gen Magdy Abdel Aal, Deputy Head of the Giza Investigations Department.
Four policemen were also injured after being hit with birdshot during clashes with demonstrators, he said.
On August 14 last year security forces dispersed by force pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo, killing nearly 600 protesters, according to the Egypt's National Council for Human Rights.
Today's incident comes a day after four people were killed and 17 others injured in clashes between police and the protesters who staged several rallies and blocked roads across Egypt, a security source said.
Muslim Brotherhood leader Morsi, who won Egypt's first free presidential election in 2012, was ousted by the military in July last year following protests against his rule.
