3 killed in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand

Three persons, including a policemen and a child, were killed in rain-related incidents in the state and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna was forced to postpone his visit to flood-hit Chamoli district due to intermittent rains.
Isolated rains occurred at a few places early this morning but at most places the weather was largely clear, state Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre sources said.
However, intermittent rains since last night at Dehradun prompted Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to postpone his visit to flood-hit Chamoli district.
Bahuguna was to visit Joshimath and Deval areas of Chamoli district today to review relief operations there, but his helicopter could not take off due to bad weather in the city, official sources here said.
If the weather permits, the Chief Minister may undertake the tour tomorrow, they said.
A police constable on duty in Bhatwari area of Uttarkashi district was yesterday hit by a boulder rolling down from a nearby hill.

The 22-year-old constable, Gambhir Singh, who hailed from Dehradun, died while being flown in a chopper to the state capital for treatment, official sources here said.
Six-year-old Sohel was killed and two others were injured when a wall fell over them under the impact of rains in Sahaspur area of the city last evening.
In another rain-related incident, a 28-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a huge rock that fell from a nearby hill at Samkot village in Pithoragarh.
However, relief operations and road restoration work continued in the rain-hit areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragargh districts.
