Three persons have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for murdering a man following a quarrel.
Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal awarded the jail term to Nitin Dabas (25), Kapil (26) and Rakesh (33), saying the prosecution has proved its case and the circumstances point towards their guilt.
The court rejected the prosecution's submission that the convicts be awarded death penalty, saying the case does not fall under the category of the rarest of rare.
"Keeping in view the facts of the case that they murdered Rahul, all the convicts are sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence punishable under section 302 (murder)/ 34 (common intention) of the IPC," the court said.
It imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each on the three convicts and said Rs three lakh be given as compensation to the victim's family.
According to the prosecution, victim Rahul, his friends and the three accused were consuming alcohol in an office in Kanjhwala area in north Delhi and a quarrel took place between the victim and Kapil on some issues.
