The Delhi Police has arrested three people for allegedly impersonating as BSES officials and extorting money from people by conducting fake raids.

The accused were identified as Brij Mohan, Mohit Kumar and Rajeev, the police said, adding a mobile phone and fake BSES identity cards used to commit the crime were recovered from them.

According to a case lodged at Dwarka South police station, four people came to the complainant's house impersonating themselves as BSES officers. The accused had fake identity cards. They checked electricity meter and demanded Rs 50,000 alleging the meter was tempered, the police said.

On suspicion, the complainant visited the BSES office and checked for their identity. On interrogation the fraud came to light and one of the accused Brij Mohan was arrested.

"During sustained interrogation, he revealed about his associates who have also been arrested. The mobile phone used to call the complainant for extortion has been recovered and fake BSES identity cards have been seized," the police said.

Further investigation in the case was in progress and efforts were being made to ascertain their involvements in other cases, the police said.
