3 more fish markets for Ernakulam District

The Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) will build three more modernised fish markets in Ernakulam district as part of the government's Rs 78-crore initiative to set up a chain of hygienic fish markets across the state.
"So far, the KSCADC has set up five modernised fish markets in Ernakulam district. Now, the construction of three more facilities at Kalady, Udayamperoor and Mulanthuruthy are in different stages," Minister for Fisheries K Babu has said.
He had inaugurated the district's fifth fish market at Muvattupuzha on Saturday.
The markets, being constructed with support from both central and state governments, are designed to give more focus on safety and hygiene.
Across the state, the government is setting up a total of 41 markets, of which 18 are completed while the work on 23 markets is in different stages.
As for Ernakulam district, KSCADC is building eight modernised markets at a cost of Rs 15.29 crore.
The government has sought approval from the National Fisheries Development Board for 11 more fish markets worth Rs.21 crore.
