Eleven persons, including a woman and her two children, were injured, some of them critically, after a fire broke out at a house in Vikhroli here today, police said.
According to police, the incident took place on the ground floor house in Ambedkar Society in suburban Vikhroli due to leakage of gas from LPG cylinder at around 11.30 am.
The occupants - Vimla Chavan (50) and her daughter Swapnali (20) - received 85 per cent burn injuries, while her 17-year-old son Aniket sustained 30 per cent burns.
Giving details of the case, senior inspector of Park Site police station Rajendra Kulkarni said, "While preparing food this morning, Vimal Chavan found that her gas cylinder has turned empty. She then borrowed a cylinder from her neighbour."
"However, Vimla apparently did not fix the regulator of the cylinder properly, due to which the gas started leaking and came in contact with open flame of a lamp kept in the house. The fire quickly spread," he added.
While Vimal and son Aniket were admitted to Rajawadi hospital, her daughter Swapnali was later shifted to Kasturba Hospital from there, Kulkarni said.
