The incident took place near Nangal village under the Payal Police Station in this district after the proclaimed offender, identified as Gama, along with his accomplices allegedly attacked a police party late this evening.
Police said a building nearby was set on fire and a police van was damaged during the scuffle.
Stones were also pelted on them, they said.
When the police party raided a dera, a group of Gama's supporters attacked the police, an the proclaimed offender, who was with the police, managed to escape, police said.
DIG Ludhiana Police Range S K Kalia said additional force have been rushed to the spot.
He said situation was tense but fully under control.
