3 robbers nabbed for murder of gang leader

Almost two weeks after an alleged leader of a chain snatching gang was shot dead, police have arrested three members of the racket in connection with the murder.
Mohd Alam (26), Nadim (19) and Rizwan (20) were arrested on August 15 in connection with the killing of Ashraf, a resident of Gokulpuri area here.
Ashraf's body was found near Nala Bhagirathi Vihar area here on August 5.
The trio claimed that Ashraf was killed when Mohd Alam "accidentally" fired from his country made pistol, police said.
According to the police, on August 5, the gang was on its way to commit a robbery and on a motorcycle. When they were near Iron bridge of Seelampur, Mohd Alam accidentally fired his 'desi katta' and a bullet hit Ashraf, who was sitting between the rider Nadim and him.
The bullet penetrated Ashraf's head and he died on the spot. The accused dumped his body near Nala Bhagirathi Vihar also threw his helmet.
Two motorcycles and two mobile phones were seized from the accused. Three other alleged members of the gang Munter, Danish and Saddam are still at large, police said.
Police while probing the death of Ashraf focused upon Mohd Alam who was his friend and used to work with him at a purse factory.
Alam was nabbed on August 15 from near Gokulpuri and on his disclosure Rizwan and Nadim were also arrested, a senior police officer said.
Police have also recovered foam of the helmet which was worn by Ashraf at the time of the incident. "It had a bullet hole and some hairs on it," the senior officer said.
The gang used to rob gold chains and cash under Ashraf's leadership, police said.
All the three accused have been taken in police remand and being interrogated to recover their cloths which were wore by them at the time of incident and to unearth other cases committed by them," police said.
