"Gayasuddin (26), resident of Bihar's Chhoti Kodarjanna village of Sahibganj district and Allauddin Malik, 37, a resident of village Amarsinghpur of Meerut district were arrested on November 24 from Jhilmil metro station when Gayasuddin came to deliver eight firearms and 16 magazines to Malik," a senior official said.

The seized firearms, eight pistols (four each of 0.32 mm bore and 0.9 mm bore) along with 16 magazines, were manufactured in Bihar's Munger district.

"The third person, 42-year-old Mohammmed Kalam, a resident of village Banodha of Munger was arrested after duo revealed during interrogation that they had procured arms from him," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP (Special Cell), adding he was produced in a court in Munger and his transit warrant obtained.

The action came following a study by police, on the orders of Delhi Police chief, on growing use of sophisticated firearms over last 4-5 years in commission of violent crimes in Delhi.

The study revealed that in most of the cases the illicit firearms manufactured in Munger, which were being smuggled into Delhi by organised criminal gangs based in Meerut, Kanpur, Allahabad and other places, were used, he said.

Allauddin was earlier apprehended by Delhi Police in 2006 while smuggling 14 Munger manufactured pistols.
