One teenaged boy drowned and two others are feared dead as they got pulled in by strong water currents while swimming in Sharda Canal in Leharpur, police said.
Three friends, Shoaib (15), Irfan (16) and Usman (17), had gone for swimming in Sharda Canal yesterday evening when Usman was suddenly caught in a strong current and the other two rushed to rescue him, police said.
Usman's body was fished out of the canal with the help of local people and rushed to CHC Leharpur where he later died. Divers are still looking for the other two, police said, adding that their chances of survival were bleak.
The body has been sent for postmortem.
