The two policemen, however, showed great courage and managed to nab one of them from the spot while the others manage to flee. Later, they too were arrested, police said.
The three accused -- Ajay Pal, Varun Gupta and Sujit Gopi -- are residents of Rohini Sector 6 and aged between 21 years and 28 years.
"The two cops were patrolling in the area when around 1 AM on Sunday some people told them that three young men were going toward a sweet shop with arms in their hands. The PCR tracked the three youths nearby and challenged them. Seeing the cops, the youths attacked them," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR) Brahm Singh.
Police recovered a pistol and an empty cartridge from Pal's possession. Later, when police teams went to the residences of the other two, they found more cartridges.
Police has registered a case under sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act against the trio.
