The birds like rose ringed parakeets were on rehabilitation at the Parakeet Transit Aviary of Forest Academy here, which were seized from illegal traders, while being kept for sale on the roadsides, over a period of time.
District Forest Officer N Satheesh released the birds in the presence of members of various associations involved in the rescue of birds, particularly parakeets, forest department sources said.
The birds include 20 rose-ringed parakeets, four pea fowls, some of which were being treated in the aviary for various disabilities, like cut feathers and clipped beaks.
Over 40 birds are undergoing treatment in the aviary, which would be soon released, they said.
