Thirty children from Odisha and Bihar brought here in a train by the caretaker of an orphanage were today handed over to government authorities by railway police as he had no travel documents for them, police said.
The caretaker informed the police that the children were members of Khadeejathul Kubra Islamic Orphanage in Nettoor near here and were returning from their home states after vacation.
However, barring train tickets he did not have any travel document for the children following which railway police took custody of them and later handed them over to Child Welfare Committee.
Cases of child trafficking have been reported in the state in the past. Railway police had rescued more than 500 children brought from eastern states for orphanages at Palakkad last year.
