At least 30 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in a clash between the police and activists of Opposition Congress during civil disobedience here today.
IG, Police Control Nepal Das said that the activists of the Congress broke two barricades near Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's residence, and the trouble started when they tried to break the last barricade.
A scuffle ensued between the security personnel and Congress activists, prompting the police to resort to lathi charge.
The agitators then hurled brickbats at the police, injuring about 10 police personnel including three DSPs. 20 Congress activists were also injured.
Das said that 11 Congress activists were admitted to the Agartala Government Medical College Hospital.
However, Opposition leader Sudip Roy Burman claimed that at least 100 Congress activists were injured due to lathi charge by the police and paramilitary Tripura State Rifles.
He said that the civil disobedience was observed to protest against rampant corruption by cadres of the ruling CPI-M and demand resignation of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
He said that the Congress called a 12-hour Tripura Bandh on Thursday to protest against 'police atrocity'.
