District and Sessions Judge Karamjit Singh had yesterday convicted the 34 followers after holding them guilty on various charges, including causing damage to public property in 2010.

Quantum of punishment was announced today.

However, the convicts were today granted bail after they furnished bail bonds, while one of the Dera followers was acquitted by the court in the absence of any concrete evidence.

Moga town was put on high alert yesterday after the court's conviction.

On February 27, 2010, a large number of followers of the sect went on rampage, torching 19 state-owned buses and also setting on fire Sutlej Express train at Moga railway station to protest registration of a CBI case against sect's chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

The police had earlier arrested ten women in the case, but they were later let off.

A case had been registered against the Dera followers under various sections of the IPC and under the provisions of the Arms Act.
