356 people completed surveillance period, 4 tested positive for COVID-19: J-K admin

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday said it has put a total of 3,146 travellers, including those in contact with suspected coronavirus cases, under surveillance while 2,337 people remain under home quarantine.

According to the administration's daily media bulletin on coronavirus, 356 people have completed their 28-day surveillance period and so far four tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the union territory.

It said 156 samples were sent for testing, of which 144 tested negative, four positive, while reports of eight people are awaited.

The adminstration advised people to not panic and practice social distancing to stop and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Public in general is therefore advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use of public transport; avoid crowded places and large gatherings, do not spit in public. People must take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap and water; and observing coughing and sneezing etiquette," the bulletin said.

It also asked people to strictly follow advisories issued by the government.
