38-year old female elephant found dead

A 38-year old elephant was found dead with the carcass in a decompsed state in an area under the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in the hilly Nilgiris District today.
The carcass of the female elephant was noticed near Mayar by by Anti Poaching Squad on routine patrol in Avaralle Beat, about 60 km from here, forest department sources said.
Senior department officials, who visited the spot, said the cause of the death of the elephant would be known after postmortem to be conducted tomorrow.
