The articles were found by some women agricultural workers in a field near a canal, who immediately alerted revenue officials, Tarangambadi Tahsildar Azhagarswamy told reporters
The articles, some of which were idols and the others pooja items, were found in two sets of 17 and 22.
The idols were that of Lord Hanuman, Nataraja, Ambal, Vinayakar and other deities and ranged between one to two foot in height, the official said.
Other details, including composition and antiquity value would be known only after detailed archaeological examination, he added.
