Launching the scheme, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said the mission will be one of the biggest successes like the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
"This will improve the status of urban health. I assurethat the government will provide sufficient funds for this. 26 corporations, 64 nagar parishads will be the beneficiaries," he added.
As per the NUHM programme implementation plan (PIP), Maharashtra gets Rs 162.58 crore, including Rs 35.64 crore for Mumbai.
The scheme includes modernisation of 336 primary health care centres, construction of 157 new primary health care centres, upgrading of 45 hospitals and construction of seven new hospitals.
