A man, Tana Karan, of Lower Neepco colony was promised Rs 30 lakh in fake currency for Rs 6 lakh by five persons from Assam who asked him to meet them at a pre-arranged spot with the money last night, SP (Itanagar) Nabam Gungte said today.
When Karan turned up to make the deal, the five men called up four armed army personnel who then together snatched away the Rs 6 lakh at gun-point and fled away in a car, Gungte said.
Three AK 47 assault rifles, 6 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition,10 mobile handsets, two bottles of a liquid substance and 718 pieces of notepaper used for printing fake currency were seized, the SP said.
Their car, an unregistered one, was impounded, he said.

The four arrested army personnel were identified as Naik Subedar R K Yadav, Riflemen Pradeep Kumar, Arun Sarkar and P Chandu from the Likabali-based 138 Medium Regiment, currently deployed in Assam's North Lakhimpur district.
A case under the Arms Act was registered against them at the Doimukh police station, he added.
