4 arrested for hunting birds

Four persons were today arrested for hunting birds in the forest area here and arms and ammunition were seized from them, an official said.
A team of Wildlife department and Forest Protection Force officials conducted a raid in Kana Chargal here during the wee hours and arrested four hunters, Regional Wildlife Warden V S Senthil Kumar said.
Their guns, along with live and used cartridges and killed birds, were also seized, the official said, adding the team conducted raids in Kana Chargal, Sondhi, Doon and Pachori forest belts.
The arrested persons were involved in hunting doves which is a protected species as per the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Protection Act.

Senthil Kumar appealed to the people to desist from such offences and said wildlife conservation is of paramount importance for maintaining ecological balance.
