Four persons impersonating as doctors were arrested for selling fake chikungunya and fever medicines at Rs 10 a bottle to villagers in Bukharpur here, police said today.
Surendra, Imran Chaudhary, Ravi and Dipu were arrested for putting lives of villagers at risk, Sadar Balabhgar police station in-charge Rajdeep Muri said.
"The gang saw business opportunity as chikungunya and viral fever have spread rapidly in the region. Impersonating as doctors they tricked villagers into believing that their medicine was effective against the disease and it could cure any fever," he said.
Villagers got suspicious after their medicines failed to yield results. The health department took samples of the medicines and tests found them to be fake, Muri added.
"The arrests were made on a report filed after testing of medicines," he said, adding the accused will be presented at a local court tomorrow.
