Four persons were arrested with old currency notes worth Rs 6.18 crore in south Delhi's Safadrjung Enclave while they were on their way to get the money exchanged in a shop in the area.
The seizure was made following a tip-off that old currency notes were being carried in two cars from west Delhi to south Delhi, police said.
"A police team stopped a Ritz and a Honda city near Safdurjung market. Two bags each from the cars were recovered when they were searched," said a senior police officer.
One of the bags contained old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. The persons were detained and later arrested, he said.
The arrested persons are property dealers and residents of west Delhi, he said.
During questioning, they said they were going to a shop in Safdarjung market to exchange the money.
"We are trying to get more details on the racket, like how the money was to be exchanged and the rate of the commission for that. We have also informed the Income-Tax department of the case," said the officer.
