A court in Ambala has sentenced four persons to two years in jail after holding them guilty of pre-natal sex determination.
Two pregnant women were also among the convicts as they had gone to the illegal centre for pre-natal sex determination.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of the convicts under Pre Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, a spokesman of Haryana Health Department said here.
On July 9, 2012, Civil Surgeon Dr Vinod Gupta got an information about an illegal clinic being run by one Jaspal Singh at his residence in Sanuda village where his friend Pankaj Gupta was using an unregistered portable ultra sound machine for sex determination.
Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising Dr Gupta, Dr B B Lala, Nodal Officer, PNDT along with officials of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a raid and found illegal sex determination being done in the clinic.
A case was registered against Jaspal Singh, Pankaj Gupta along with Manjinder and Gagandeep, he said.
