The legislators, among them MLAs Shyamdev Roy Chowdhury (Varanasi South), Dr Jyotsana Srivastava (Varanasi Cantt) and Ravindra Jaiswal (Varanasi North), and MLC Kedarnath Singh, were protesting against the move by police officials today to prevent them from proceeding to Muzaffarnagar.
According to sources, while Srivastava sat on a dharna at the Phulpur police station, the remaining three legislators decided to go on a fast over the issue.
The four legislators were on their way to Muzaffarnagar in two cars when they were intercepted by the Phulpur SHO who brought them to the police station where CO (city) Rahul Kumar allegedly behaved with them in a rude manner.
The stir by the four was over Kumar's alleged offensive approach with them.
