Four policemen were injured as armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire at them in the parking lot of a court complex and freed a murder accused undertrial in Mahendergarh district in Haryana today, police said.
The murder accused along with two other accused in different cases were being produced by the police before a court in Mahendergarh.
While two of the accused were being escorted by other policemen, the murder accused Vikram was also under police escort and was being taken inside the court complex, SP, Narnaul, Anil Dhawan said over phone.
He said Vikram tried to free himself by jumping from the boundary wall to escape, but was overpowered by the cops who tried to take him inside a police vehicle.
Suddenly, some armed assailants, said to be Vikram's associates, appeared and opened indiscriminate fire injuring four cops including a sub inspector and two head constables, he said, adding the incident had been captured by CCTV cameras installed in the complex.
One cop was seriously injured in the incident.
