4 cops surrender after being booked for custodial death of man

Four policemen, including a station house officer (SHO), who were booked in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man in police custody in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, have surrendered.
All the four accused surrendered at Champa police station yesterday in connection with the custodial death of Satish Norge, of Nariyara village under Mulmula police station limits, Superintendent of Police, Janjgir-Champa, Ajay Yadav said.
Notably, Norge, belonging to Scheduled Caste community, was allegedly beaten to death in police custody on September 17 after he was arrested on the complaint of electricity department officials in Janjgir-Champa.
Sub-Inspector Jitendra Singh Rajput, who was in-charge of Mulmula police station, constables Sunil Dhurv and Dilharan Miri besides Homeguard Rajesh Daud, were suspended by the SP immediately after the incident.
Later, they were booked on charges of murder under IPC section 302 and an FIR under relevant sections of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 was also registered against them.
They were yesterday produced in a local court which sent them to Bilaspur jail on judicial remand, the SP added.
The state government has also constituted a single-member judicial probe commissionfor carrying out an inquiry into the incident.
